Pistol Purchase Permits & Firearms I.D. Cards
The State of New Jersey has instituted a new online firearms application and registration system (F.A.R.S.). Now, when applying for a firearms purchase permit and/or firearms ID card, the entire application is online.
Steps for applications:
Read this entire webpage.
Have these required items ready when applying:
Valid New Jersey driver’s license number.
Social Security Number (S.S.N.)
State Bureau of Investigation (S.B.I.) number. (If you do not have this, you will be assigned a number as part of this application)
Valid email address(s) for yourself and your references

Monitor your email for status changes and for alerts that we need additional information.
If approved, you will be notified thru email from the State Police of NJ. Please check your SPAM folder as well.
Once approved, the applicant will be able to download and print the Electronic Firearms Purchaser Identification Card (E-FID) from their approval email.
Carry Permit Applications
Currently, all applications for a Permit to Carry a Handgun are online only. Please input information carefully before submitting the application.

1. Read this entire section for all required information.
2. Required items are to be input or uploaded:
Valid e-mail address;
SBI# which will be on your Firearms ID card
(usually 5-6 numbers following by a letter);
Recent photograph - Headshot must be on a light background making sure it includes
head and shoulders;
Training qualifications signed by Qualified
Instructor;
Social Security No. and New Jersey Driver's License number;
References - Contact information for four (4) references - non-family, not related by law or law;
Information on the handgun that you qualified with and intend to carry;
The total application fee is $200.00. Payment of $50.00 to the State Police due on submission of application and $150.00 due to the Township of Old Bridge which will be invoiced by the Township via e-mail or you can use the link provided below (#4). Upon receipt of payment, Old Bridge Police Dept. will begin processing your application.
