Joint Effort by Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office and Old Bridge Township Police Department Lead to the Arrest of Email Suspect

Mayor Owen Henry praises Township and County law enforcement for working together and apprehending suspect

Old Bridge Township - Old Bridge Township Mayor Owen Henry was advised by Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone of the arrest of a suspect accused of sending an email through the Township’s email server that contained racial epithets and other racially charged comments to Councilwoman Edina Brown on March 7, 2021.

Mayor Henry praised the joint effort of the Township and County’s law enforcement in investigating and tracking the email back to the suspect, which is not an easy task.

“I want to thank the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and their Investigators and the Township’s Police Department and their Investigators, in working together to locate and arrest the suspect,” said Mayor Henry. “When I was first made aware of the hateful email, I immediately advised then Chief Volkert to use all available resources, including joining with any and all law enforcement agencies, to track the email to ensure that the person responsible for this reprehensible act would be found and prosecuted.” Henry continued, “While the past few weeks have been difficult, I know that the entire Township Council joins me in thanking all those involved in the investigation and ultimate arrest.

Under advice of Counsel, we were told not to comment on the email and investigation so that the Investigators would not be thwarted in their effort to apprehend the culprit. Now that has become a reality. We thank you for a job well done.”

As is the case with all criminal defendants, charges against the suspect are merely accusations and the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
